In 2015, Mechiel learned how she could apply for Habitat for Humanity through her church. Mechiel’s request was accepted and she was able to select a piece of land close to work for herself and close to school for her granddaughters.
“I enjoy working with the Habitat staff. It’s more like a family situation. They care about your happiness as much as you do. People give up their time to help you accomplish what you want in your life,” says Mechiel.
Over 50 Dometic employees have volunteered to assist Habitat for Humanity by building a portion of Mechiel’s new home in the Dometic parking lot. It will then be transported to the location of her new home. Dometic is thrilled to be a part of such an exciting time in one of their own employee’s lives.
“Working with Habitat for Humanity, we are fortunate to be able to help one of our Dometic team members realize her dream of constructing her future home. This is a tremendous opportunity for our local Elkhart employees to give back to the community and demonstrate the Dometic way,” says President of Dometic, Scott Nelson.
The build is set to take place on Friday, June 16 from 8am-12pm. Dometic is providing snacks and water for volunteers and welcomes media on-site to see teamwork and community at its best.
